If you’ve been a long fan of my blog, you may be wondering what this post is all about. Well, I decided to venture out and thought I would bring you some travel news and reviews. I have all kinds of travel ideas saved up and I just couldn’t hold it in any longer. I was approached by a lovely man who wanted to offer my readers with a bit of information about Ayurveda tourism in India. I thought there’s no better way to kick off this travel excitement than sharing some lovely relaxing, beautiful places. Let’s face it, we all need a little R&R in our lives.

Not sure what Ayurveda is? Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge). Which also translates as “the wisdom of life” or “the knowledge of longevity”. This is one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful mind-body health systems. “It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.”

For a while now, we have known about a variety of tourism packages that have been engineered to target and satisfy a particular thirst in people, a void in their so termed ‘wanderlust souls’. Once such tourism package which was recently developed in India is Ayurveda tourism. Ayurveda tourism, as the name suggests, is the tourism done in order to experience the healing capabilities of, what would seem magical but is, purely natural medical science developed in India way back in ancient times. Ayurveda tourism has not only connected people to a very natural way of life in a time when popping pills and having surgeries are slowly becoming the answer to everything but has also helped India revive something which was, with time, becoming a lost science. Slowly, India is not only spreading and informing people about this lost scientific art but is also progressing in it by reviving more and more from the past as a result of competition.

Anyhow, this is not, and will never be, the reason for you to go on an Ayurveda tourism. What you will get from it is a completely natural, body-friendly and more effective method of healing stressed joints, injured muscles etc. Not only the body, Ayurveda is also believed to be capable of healing the mind and rejuvenating the soul. Not only this, it keeps you away from the continuous cycle of stress and botheration of daily life.

While there are a lot of places for it, there are, like in every field, a few special ones. Have a look!

  1. Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort, Kerala

How about prepping to go to heaven in God’s own country? Well, it may sound corny but it sure feels heavenly! First of all, stunning falls short of describing this resort in terms of its beauty, maintenance and sheer planning and construction. The moment you enter this resort, half of your stress vanishes automatically! Now, some of you might be thinking that why pay for Ayurveda if looks themselves can heal, why not go to a proper resort? Well, for those curious chaps, first things first, this is the resort that started the trend of Ayurveda resorts. Moving on, Somatheeram is not some cheap urban version of Ayurveda, it follows the old and authentic teachings of this ancient science. To support this, know that not only does Somatheeram provide a perfect environment away from stress and to be with nature, but it also provides meditation and yoga sessions. And yet, in spite of all this, Somatheeram is not an aging resort. In fact, it has excellent rooms and restaurant, which is built in the most modern of ways. All in all, you are going to have a fantastic experience here!

  1. Devaaya Ayurveda and Nature Cure Centre, Goa

Well, how to even start about this combination? You go for a relief from pains and stresses and that too to the most sought-after ‘release resort’ of India. Can’t you actually imagine how deadly this combination would be? The first you need to know is that the moment you step into Goa, you would feel a change in the atmosphere, a cut, per say, from the daily crap that life hands you. Now, after reaching Goa, you go to this place away from the crowd and you find this resort with these beautiful and luxurious stand-alone cottages (designed in a very simple way) and a huge, open and unbound water body and lush greenery around you and such behind the cottage, a very well maintained swimming pool! How would it feel? Not only this, from yoga to the jacuzzi, from excellent massage and massage rooms to steam and sauna rooms, this place, in the true spirit of Ayurveda, has all the things you need to detox your body and mind. Not only this, there is a tennis court to exercise your body and let off the residual steam and there is a meditation hall to heal the soul and relax the ‘self’.

  1. The Leela, Udaipur

Ever heard tales about dreams coming true? Ever felt jealous and thought when would my turn for dream-come-true situation come? This is your dream come true turn! First of all, one does not need an introduction to impeccable experience that The Leela provides (and though Udaipur’s beauty does add a lot, know that it is not even a factor here!), or the calmness and ‘cared for’ feeling one witnesses while staying here, or the King like treatment this place never fails to provide and so on. But, on top of that, you get to experience a treatment that is designed solely for stress and pain release from your heart, mind, and soul. Ayurveda here not only means that you get a touch of the Leela finesse but it also means that the person who walks out of this place would be much more satisfied and his/her life and self.

  1. Ashok Country Resort, New Delhi

If you are more of an urban person, with a knack for spa and its treatments and if you prefer to just live it the non-fussy way, this is the place for you. Not exactly a traditional Ayurvedic treatment place, this resort is the picture-perfect kind of family resort and would definitely give you the time to detach yourself from your daily life’s hyper-issues. Although not a lot of treatments are offered here, but the ones offered are pretty effective, provided your physical and mental conditions aren’t in too many troubles!

  1. Ananda-In the Himalayas, Rishikesh

This place is as close you can get to heaven on Earth. Seriously! Spread over a 100-acres of land (it is huge!), this beauty, as dusk approaches, doesn’t seem anything short of a palace. Excellent construction, mesmerizing location, and visible maintenance efforts are three factors that make this place right at the top of your list. With an extremely pleasing view of our holy river, the Ganges, and a soothingly pure vibe of Rishikesh, this place combines ethereal and natural charm with man’s creativity and capabilities. Not only would this place feel like nature’s wonderland with a natural water body, a whole hill’s side covering, a surreally perfect blanket of greenery, but its excellent dining services (including private dining) and its pool and the various luxurious and extremely luxurious rooms and villas (that’s right!) here, make this place a wonder of man’s creation and a must visit for those seeking penance in form of relief.

  1. Kaya Kalp-The Royal Spa, Agra

Once you visit this place, you will indefinitely believe that can no one can blend luxury like Taj. This spa offers you the authentic Ayurvedic treatments in the grandest of ways, you will be reverted back in time to the period when the Maharajas and Maharanis received such treatment. Not only this, the fact that once you step out of the Spa, you are still in Taj’s capable hands, which adds substantially to your relaxation and the effectiveness of your treatment, slowly if not instantaneously.

  1. Panchakarma, Art of Living ashram, Bangalore

The ultimate destination for an actual Ayurveda treatment is saved for the very end. If you really want a detox, of substances, of negativity, of illness, of pains, of stress and other such issues, this is THE place to be at. The ashram is the quietest of all must visit places in Bengaluru. Not only does it help you get rid of physical pains, sufferings, and toxins, you can also enjoy the ultimate bliss this place gives with pure Satvik food, daily meditation and yoga and a daily bout of Bhajans (more popularly known as Satsang here). All of these combined, that too at the price of one, is the best thing and the best deal you can ever get. Also, there are a lot of courses for self-development here in which you can enroll (for some extra fee). Also, if you get a chance to meet Sri Sri himself, the spiritual Guru who is the founder of Art Of Living. P.S.: Don’t think luxury is not an option here, they can beat hotels (if you want)!

Summing up, Ayurveda, in these times, should be a way of life because, as it is, humans are becoming storehouses of chemicals. Think about it, and if you do, you know your options now!

  1. I have not heard of Ayurveda before I am loving the “science of life” and would definitely love to relax at one of these places.

  2. I’ve been fascinated by Ayurveda for a while now but haven’t had a chance to try it. India is on my list of places to visit one day so if I ever get a chance to go there I will have to check one of these places out.

  3. I’m not sure if I’ll ever visit India in my lifetime, although I’d like to, but if I do, I’ll make sure to go back to this post. The Kaya Kalp–The Royal Spa looks heavenly!!

  4. I so love to travel. It has been many years as it just isn’t in the budget. My dream is to share some amazing travel experiences with my husband and 3 kids.
